Welcome to Amachi

Amachi: “who knows but what God has brought us through this child.”

Having a mom or dad in prison can have an impact on a child’s development, self esteem, and feelings of self worth.  Children of imprisoned parents represents the highest risk youth in our country, and the absence of their parents can increase the likelihood of their being involved in negative behavior.  That is why mentoring of this group of children is crucial as they strive to balance these and other issues that are a part of growing up.  One to one mentoring by caring adults has proven to be affective, as there can never be too many positive adults in a child’s life.

These children are left behind but they don’t have to be left out.  We would like to encourage well meaning, caring adults to consider sharing a small portion of your time with a child of promise.  We would also like to encourage the caregivers of these children to consider having one more caring adult to share in your child’s life.
