Children In Need
Here are just a few examples of children who need your help. After you complete the application process, Amachi staff will match you with a child for you to mentor.
“Shaun”
Shaun is an 8-year-old boy who lives with his mother and younger brother. He is full of energy and loves to tell jokes. He was 4-years-old when his father was sentenced to prison for life. He hasn’t seen his father since then. He is proud that he can do back flips. He said if he could be anyone in the world, he would be himself because he has fun. He wants to be a karate teacher when he grows up. This young man needs a laid back mentor who loves to laugh and go with the flow. Shaun likes simple things; being outside, tossing a football, and running around a playground.
“Christina”
Christina is a 12-year-old girl who lives with her mother, younger brother, and younger sister. Her father is serving a twenty-year sentence and she rarely sees him. Christina is on the step team at school and enjoying play basketball. She also likes to watch ball games and talk. She needs a mentor who will allow her to express herself and will encourage her.
“Tyrell”
Tyrell is an 11-year-old boy who lives with his grandmother and younger sister. His mother died in an automobile accident and his father is incarcerated. He has faced a lot of abandonment in his 11 years. Tyrell is a quiet child, but expresses his excitement and amusement by a huge grin, an infectious giggle, and bright eyes. He said he wants his mentor to be fun, active, and to like basketball. His favorite subjects at school are math and art. He loves to play computer and video games. One day, he wants to be a gamer and invent video games. He needs a mentor that will serve as a listening ear and let him laugh.
“Josiah”
Josiah is an energetic 7-year-old boy who loves telling jokes and making up new games. He lives with his aunt and both of his parents are incarcerated. He loves reading interesting books and going to gym class. His greatest achievement is that he can do handstands. He loves to play soccer, basketball, his play station, and watch cartoons. When he is older, he wants to be either a policeman or a doctor on the health channel.
“Latasha”
Latasha is a bright, mature 10-year-old girl who loves softball, crochet, scrapbooking, and reading. She lives with her mother, a younger brother, and a younger sister. Her greatest achievement is her A’s on her report card. She wants to be a lawyer, judge, police officer, and softball player when she is older. She needs a mentor who likes games, crafts, and sports. She needs someone who will encourage her and listen to her concerns.
